Richardson Farm + Vermont Spirits Distilling Co have a long history

The maple tree and the richness of this Vermont resource is the backbone of our story at Vermont Spirits Distilling Co. Our first craft spirit was an early variation of Vermont Gold Vodka. In the beginning, we had our own sugarbush trees. Our Master Distiller would care for them himself. We’d harvest the maple during the sugaring season.

These trees were over 100 years old and often had stone walls running through the woods that once separated fields and roads. Big old maples on their own are majestic, but in a line by an old stone wall, or by an old road in the forest in the late winter and covered by snow – that’s beautiful.

Today we partner with Richardson Farm for our maple. It’s a family farm up on Hartland Hill, built in 1907, when dairy farmer James Johnson Richardson purchased land there to start a dairy farm.

The maple we get from Richardon Farm is pure grade Vermont maple. Besides the maple mash (from which our craft vodka is distilled), we have developed methods to use maple sap in various ways. Most people think they’re going to taste maple-flavored spirits when they visit us for the first time. Instead the maple is a versatile ingredient that does so much more.

For all these reasons, we’re so proud to collaborate with Richardson Farm on their newest brew: Richardson Farm Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. Here are all the details you need to know.
